Unless you won the genetic lottery chances are you have a teeny, tiny pocket of fat somewhere on your body.
If it bothers you you’ve likely tried diet and exercise in a bid to shift it. Hopefully it worked but possibly not.
That’s how many bodies work unfortunately. Still, if it bothers you there are other options and CoolSculpting is one of them.
CoolSculpting is a fat-freezing treatment which, (surprise), freezes your fat!
Dr Joseph Ajaka from Sydney’s Cosmos Clinic has been carrying out the procedure for close to a decade and he’s a fan.
“I have seen amazing results,” he says.
It freezes the fat clearly but how exactly?
“This treatment kills off the fat,” explains Dr Ajaka.
“It reduces the temperature of the fat so the cells are killed and the skin stays intact.”
Once your unwanted fat cells are frozen they are then processed by your liver and removed from the body. Yep – just like that!
A few more details … the treatment sees an applicator ‘suctioned’ onto your body. The applicator applies precisely controllers cooling to your problem area for 35 to 75 minutes.
According to Dr Ajaka, it’s not painful but mildly uncomfortable.
However, on the whole people seem to tolerate it pretty well, he says.
“Patients say it feels like a pulling or tugging … some describe it as a mild pinching,” says Dr Ajaka.
“They also say they feel an intensely cold sensation but this typically subsides within 10 minutes as the area becomes numb.

In fact, some patients are so relaxed during the treatment they work on their laptops through the whole thing. Others enjoy a movie while some actually nap while the machine goes to work.
And when it’s done you can hop up and strut out the door.
“There’s some temporary redness and temporary numbness in the area and you might get a little bit of bruising but other than that it’s a walk-in, walk-out procedure with no down time,” confirms Dr Ajaka.
If you fancy giving it a try and you have small pockets of stubborn fat then this might be for you. CoolSculpting is not suitable for very overweight people unfortunately.

“It’s best suited to someone who is looking for mild improvements,” says Dr Ajaka.
“It’s not designed for one-stop-shop major fat removal like liposuction. CoolSculpting is considered part of a holistic approach to body sculpting, perfect for areas that need some extra attention, no matter how strict your diet and exercise routine are.”
The treatment gets results but it’s not cheap with use of the applicator costing $600 to $1000. Still, you might regard it as worth every cent.
“I have seen amazing results,” reveals Dr Ajaka,
“I had one client who wanted to treat her arms but due to her busy schedule she could only have one arm treated on the first day.

“It was a couple of months before she came back for her next treatment and the difference between her arms was great!
“She was extremely happy.”
And rightly so.
Dr Ajaka and his team of medical professionals have performed more than 100,000 cosmetic treatments, 15,000 liposuction procedures and 5,000 CoolSculpting applications. You can learn more about his clinic here.
