Millennials have seen a lot of trends come and go in their time, and now they’re being transported back to the late ’90s and early noughties with the return of frosted makeup.

Decades later, the nostalgic Y2K trend has undergone a modern upgrade with sheer, glossy products giving faces that gorgeous pearlescent finish.

Time to google Pamela Anderson and Paris Hilton circa 2000 for your latest beauty inspo!

Lustrous Lips

The frosted pink lip has been everywhere on #BeautyTok, and L’Oréal’s Ballerina Shoes satin lipstick shade is responsible for the revival of the early-2000s beauty look.

This time around, the soft pink lips are less metallic and glitter-heavy, and more refined, with the addition of lipliners and glosses to give the pearly pink lipstick dimension and create a subtle, light-reflecting look. In short, “pink sugar” glam focuses on an opalescent finish that is more understated than full-on sparkle.

Before you try the frosted lip, be sure to prep your lips accordingly with an exfoliator, as shimmer can cling unflatteringly to dry skin.

Cosmic Cheeks

Pack away the golden, sun-kissed bronzers and reach for a highlighter or cool-toned blush to help you achieve a look that feels more snow-kissed instead.

A sweeping of blush high on your cheekbones and across the bridge of your nose will give you the desired flushed effect of someone who’s just ducked in from the cold.

If you want a more cohesive look, a silvery-white highlighter dusted along the bridge of your nose and upper cheeks will bring the wintry look together nicely.

Bright Eyes

Those who want to pay homage to the original frosted eye trend should be turning to shimmering, metallic, cool-toned eyeshadows to make the eyes really pop. Whites, icy blues, frosty silvers and deep mauves work beautifully for this trend, which is all about having fun and being bold with your makeup look.

Lashings of mascara will give the frosted eye a more contemporary feel, and if you’re opting for a paler shimmery shadow, a slick of black eyeliner will add a touch of rock star to the pretty pop princess palette.
