A favourite destination of luxury travellers and celebrities alike, the award-winning Halcyon House is the only Australian property to make Conde Nast Traveler’s Gold List for 2019.

Having put the low-key Cabarita Beach, halfway between Queensland’s Gold Coast and Byron Bay, on the world map, the luxurious 21-room hotel was one of 78 destinations on the list of the world’s best hotels, resorts and cruises, which also included The Kensington, London, La Mamounia, Marrakech, and Soneva Fushi, the Maldives.

Formerly a classic 1960s motel, Halcyon House is the brainchild of Brisbane-based sisters Elisha and Siobhan Bickle and is a fusion of understated European-style elegance and beachside chic.

Designed by Anna Spiro, no two rooms are the same and feature vintage pieces as well as bespoke furniture and curated art works.

The hotel’s restaurant, Paper Daisy, with chef Ben Devlin at the helm, is also a hot spot for a long lunch and showcases the northern New South Wales region’s unique produce.
