Bindi Irwin and Chandler Powell have fallen out of favour with their Australian fans – and it’s all because of their wedding TV special.

Last week, Bindi’s new hubby, Chandler announced the future air dates for their Animal Planet special, revealing Australia will view their wedding last!
‘Crikey! Thank you to our USA friends for tuning in to our wedding special on Animal Planet,’ Chandler began his post.

‘Here are more dates that Animal Planet will be showing it around the world. We will share more air dates as we find out! USA: NOW, Australia: July 18, UK & Ireland: May 3, Taiwan: 23 May, South Korea: July 3.’
He added: ‘Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macao, Mongolia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam: May 18.’
The bizarre list of dates shows Australia as the last to view the televised wedding, two months after the other nations, and three months after Chandler’s homeland, America.
‘Why so late on Australia? Shouldn’t this be their equivalent of the royal wedding?’ wrote one hurt fan.
Another commented with a stream of crying emojis, ‘Why do we have to wait until July?’
More accused the newlyweds of abandoning Bindi’s homeland, and admitted to being confused as to why a wedding held in Australia at ‘Australia Zoo’ would be left until last.
One hashtagged their comment, ‘#RippedOff.’
Last week, Bindi opened up to WHO about her special day.
“We didn’t really have a schedule, so we were like, ‘Well, let’s just have breakfast then get ready whenever we feel like it,’” she said. “It was almost like we were eloping. Kind of crazy and certainly not what we had planned, but I think that made it even more special. Even if it wasn’t by-the-book perfect, it was our perfect.”
While the “whirlwind” day is one that Bindi, 21 –the daughter of ‘Crocodile Hunter’ Steve and wife Terri – will always cherish, she and Chandler, 23, a Florida native and former pro wakeboarder, nearly called the whole thing off.
Just a couple of months before the Animal Planet star was set to walk down the aisle in her dream wedding at the Australia Zoo on April 4, Covid-19 began to spread around the globe.
“We had been planning for almost a year,” says Bindi, “but as soon as this all started happening, we had to look at different options to make sure everyone was safe.”
Public gatherings were banned a few days after the ceremony, and the Irwin family has temporarily closed the zoo where they live and work. Bindi and Chandler were forced to cancel their planned April 4 wedding with just days to go.
“It was a tough decision but absolutely the right one,” says Bindi of calling off their 200-guest event.
“We thought about postponing because you want to share this day with everyone, but when it boiled down to it, we both just said, ‘Look, we desperately want to get married, and no matter what the future holds, at least we’ll be husband and wife. We can take on the world together.’”
