A bizarre theory is floating around about why Married At First Sight groom, Ivan Sarakula pronounces his first name ‘ee-vahn’ rather than ‘eye-vun’ – and it may have something to do with infamous Aussie serial killer, Ivan Milat.
WATCH: Radio hosts confused over how to pronounce MAF’S Ivan’s name
After Ivan spoke to Perth’s Xavier, Juelz and Pete on Monday, the hosts speculated that he’d purposely decided to insist on his name being pronounced ‘ee-vahn’ because he didn’t want people to associate him with the 90s backpacker murderer.
I just got a note, it’s “ee-vun” not “eye-vun”,’ radio host Xavier Ellis said, to which his colleague Pete Curulli replied: ‘No, “ee-vahn”.’
Xavier then added: ‘Mate, because [of] Ivan Milat!’
Pete disagreed, insisting the pronunciation was ‘nothing to do with Ivan Milat’.
During his debut episode on MAFS, Ivan introduced himself as ‘eye-vun’, before correcting himself by saying ‘ee-vahn’.
The U-turn suggests he may not be used to pronouncing his name this way.
Ivan Milat became Australia’s most notorious serial killer after brutally murdering and torturing seven backpackers and hitchhikers between 1989 and 1992 in the Belanglo State Forest, south of Sydney
It is widely believed that the tally of his killing spree is much higher.
Milat died of cancer in October at the age of 74, while serving a life sentence at Long Bay Correctional Centre.
