Australian actor Tom Long has opened up to The Project‘s Lisa Wilkinson about his terminal cancer battle, revealing he has just months to live.

In last ditch effort, following years of chemotherapy and bone marrow transplants to fight multiple myeloma, and incurable blood cancer, Tom hopes a new medical trial in the US will help him out-live his three to 12 month prognosis.
“My chances elsewhere are not that good, so I don’t really have a choice,” he told Lisa in the interview which aired on Network 10 on Sunday night.
If selected, the beloved SeaChange and The Dish actor’s T-cells will be collected and genetically modified to attack his cancer cells.
“I’m very aware that I could be taken any time,” said Tom, who was in palliative care when he doctor put him forward to be selected for the trial. “But it’s the hope I think. I go for hope.”
Tom was first diagnosed with blood cancer just prior to collapsing on stage during a performance at the Sydney Opera House in 2012. At the time he was given just two to three years to live – that was seven years ago. “Essentially I thought, That’s it.”
