The Voice Australia may be the only singing contest we have left Down Under but it appears the fate of its future may be in jeopardy – after last night’s finale saw 300,000 fewer viewers than last year’s episode.
According to Mumbrella, a total of 968,000 metro viewers tuned in to see controversial contestant Sam Perry crowned the winner.
The number dropped more than 300,000 viewers from last year’s finale audience which came in at 1.306m.
Notably, the decline in audience appears to be following a pattern as in previous years, the Channel 9 reality TV show pulled in larger numbers.
In 2016, 1.287m viewers watched pop star Alfie Arcuri win the title, while in 2015 and 2014 the finales reeled in audiences of 1.552m and 1.66m respectively.
This year producers brought in the likes of international superstars Kelly Rowland, Joe Jonas and Boy George, yet still, they struggled to garner any huge digits.
