It’s no secret that nostalgia is reigning supreme when it comes to the latest trends.

Wired headphones are back, we’re styling denim like it’s the 90’s, and digital cameras are the only correct way to take photos.

But expanding on the latter trend is pocket printers, also known as mini or portable printers. They make it so you can easily print your pictures without the need for a big, bulky (and expensive) printer at home.

What’s more, as “whimsy” culture encourages us to romanticise our lives a little more, the need for a pocket printer expands: you can print out images for your bullet journaling, or I’ve even seen people use them to print tiny book covers. I mean, how cute!

Either way, the more I look into it, the more I’m convinced I need one. So here are some of the best mini printers to get.

The best mini printers to buy in Australia

While looking at Reddit for cues on the best mini printers on the market, I saw one person rave about the Instax printer, saying it’s “nice because the photos are actually clear, but the polaroid-style prints are so thick”.

Our very own editor, Lyndsey, also has this model, saying it’s one of the best purchases she has made in ages.

“Like most parents, I am guilty of taking thousands of pictures of my son…which then chew up storage on my phone while never seeing the light of day again,” she says.

“With the Instax, I can actually print cute pics of my little guy and then pop them on the fridge, in photobooks or even in cards to our family members. It’s also great for when we have parties to give our guests a little souvenir of the event!”

In the same Reddit thread, someone else vouched for the Polaroid Hi-Print. “Battery powered, Bluetooth to Android or iOS, recharges by USB. But it’s built really well, and the quality is great. I love mine,” they said.

The Canon Selphy is also a strong contender, with one user saying: “It’s bigger than the Sprocket but smaller than the Selphy. I usually print four photos on one paper. I like the square shape!”

Multiple people also said they “adored” the Canon Ivy 2 as it produces decent photos and isn’t bad price for a printer or sheets, and is very compact.
