As someone who has written quite a fair bit about walking pads (case in point here), it’s honestly surprising I didn’t have one until fairly recently.

With winter coming around faster than I can keep up with, I figured now was as good a time as any to properly equip myself with a tool that would let me get my steps in, no matter how bad the weather gets.

If you’re planning to do the same, then there are probably a few things on your mind: Which one should I buy? Will it fit in my space? And more importantly, is a walking pad really worth it?

Here’s my honest walking pad review

Fortis Foldable Walking Pad Treadmill

$199 at Kogan

The walking pad I have at home is the Fortis Foldable Walking Pad Treadmill (as pictured above). It retails for $199 at Kogan, and is described as a “sleek and ultra-slim” model.

It’s joint-friendly exercise shock-absorbent technology, and has an integrated phone holder so you can watch your YouTube videos hands-free while you trot.

WHO loves

  • Very slim design
  • Has a phone stand (which can fold down for storage)
  • 0 – 6km/h speed settings
  • LED display to see time, distance and calories

Why I love it

For starters, I love that I can get my steps in without having to get dressed and brave the unpredictable weather outside. It also means I can stare at my phone the entire time without the risk of bumping into someone (or something).

It’s also a lot slimmer than I was expecting. When it arrived in this big, bulky box, I was a little worried. But once I unpacked it, it was just as sleek as the website said it would be, meaning I can easily slide it under the couch or pack it away in the spare room when I don’t need it.

The only con is that it is quite heavy to lift by myself, so I’d need someone to help me move it around.

How big is the walking pad?

I’d say this walking pad isn’t too big – but that comes down to personal opinion and preference. It’s big enough that I can walk on it without worrying if I’m going to fall off, but not massive enough that it takes up a huge amount of space.

The website lists its specific dimensions as 123 x 61.5 x 119cm when it’s open, and 135 x 57.5 x 12.5cm when it’s folded.

How loud is it?

Once I got the walking pad up and running, it needed a second to settle before it was perfect.

It was quite loud when I first fired it up, but all it needed was a little oil to smooth it over, and now it’s whisper-quiet.

How do you use it?

Set up is simple. You need to have it plugged into an outlet to turn it on, and then you can use the handy little remote that it comes with to navigate.

You can increase (or decrease) the speed via remote, and watch the LED display change as it shows you the time, speed, distance, and calories burned while you walk.

You can hit play and pause easily, then pop the remote onto the phone holder so your hands are free. Or, you can lay the phone stand all the way flat if it’s not needed.

Is a walking pad worth it?

Considering it’s cheaper than an annual gym membership, and super convenient, yes, a walking pad is very much worth it. And if my word isn’t enough, then just a quick browse on TikTok will show you that everyone who owns a walking pad would recommend it.

It’s great if you’re someone who works from home and struggles to get enough steps in for the day, or if you’re someone like me who hates getting caught up in the rain on a walk.
