Denim is having a major moment in 2026, but this time, it’s personal. Gone are the days of cookie-cutter jeans; this year, it’s all about pieces that tell a story, spark nostalgia, and let your personality shine.
“We are looking for a sentimental revival. Something that feels familiar, but still feels really fresh,” says Lottie Rae, an Australian artist who recently partnered with Levi’s for a limited edition denim drop.
Western-inspired details are popping up everywhere, too—think subtle nods to cowboy culture without the full rodeo vibe. The goal? Pieces that feel timeless, look effortlessly cool, and might just become your new wardrobe favourites for years to come.
The denim trends that will define 2026
Barn jackets
Barn jackets are classic truckers with a modern twist—structured enough to feel timeless, but with room for personality and playful details that make them stand out.
Baggy denim
Loose, relaxed silhouettes are taking centre stage. “Baggy and loose silhouettes perfectly capture easy wear and ‘90s nostalgia and therefore have the potential to take a central spot in our closets for a while,” says Jill Guenza, VP of Levi’s Women’s Design.
Western-inspired denim
Western details are cropping up in everyday denim, from subtle yokes to stitchwork nods to cowboy culture. The key? It’s wearable nostalgia.
Lottie Rae says it’s “about expression… a fine line between Western and fashion,” letting you lean into the trend without feeling like you’re dressing for a rodeo.
Wearable art
Denim is moving into collectible territory. “People want something that feels expressive and collectible… like their money bought them a moment,” Lottie notes. These aren’t just clothes; they’re heirlooms in the making, pieces you’ll reach for season after season.
This year, it’s all about roomy, relaxed silhouettes like barrel-leg and wide-leg jeans, which bring a chic, ‘90s-inspired vibe to your everyday wardrobe.
Straight-leg and tailored cuts are also gaining momentum, offering a polished alternative that works from the office to weekends without feeling overdone.
Skinny jeans are no longer the go-to silhouette. Fashion is moving toward more relaxed, refined, and versatile silhouettes that feel more modern and work with a wider range of wardrobes.
Clean, straight‑leg, bootcut, barrel‑leg and hybrid styles like stovepipe or cigarette jeans (which are slimmer than a straight leg but not as tight as classic skinnies) are emerging as the go‑to denim look in 2026.
That said, skinny jeans aren’t completely gone. Versions of them are resurfacing in updated forms (think mid‑rise, less restrictive fabric or more tailored “cigarette” shapes) and are still showing up in fashion collections and celebrity styling.
