72nd Academy Awards, 2000
No noms this year but Cate looked flawless in Jean Paul Gaultier with more back detailing. This time, the simple black dress featured an open back with gold chains.
Cate presented the award for Best Live Action Short Film alongside her Talented Mr Ripley co-star Jude Law.
77th Academy Awards, 2005
It had been a while between Oscars, but Cate returned with a vengeance in Valentino. More importantly, this was the year she picked up her first Academy Award.
Cate won for her portrayal of previous Oscar winner, Katharine Hepburn, in The Aviator.
79th Academy Awards, 2007
Cate returned with a nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Notes on a Scandal. She may have lost to 'dream girl' Jennifer Hudson, but she won hearts in a sleek and shiny Armani Prive gown.
80th Academy Awards, 2008
We were all sure Cate would walk away with her first Best Actress award for Elizabeth: The Golden Age. Alas, the equally brilliant Marion Cotillard swooped in for a deserved win.
Nevertheless, Cate still made history as one of only 11 performers to ever receive two acting nominations in the same year, also earning a nod for her portrayal as 'Bob Dylan' in I'm Not Here. She was also the first actress to be nominated for portraying the same character in two different films (both Queen Elizabeth).
This also happened to be the year that Cate walked the carpet pregnant. She would give birth to her third child less than two months later.
She was dressed by Dries Van Noten.
83rd Academy Awards, 2011
No noms this year but Cate presented awards for Best Make-up and Best Costume Design in lavender Givenchy Couture (with yellow beaded back detail, of course).
86th Academy Awards, 2014
And it's a win! Cate finally picked up her best actress win for her starring role as a neurotic, upper-class housewife in Blue Jasmine.
She looked phenomenal in a nude, bejewelled and floral embellished Armani Prive gown, but we can't imagine it felt as good for beating out the likes of Meryl Streep, Judi Dench, Amy Adams and Sandra Bullock for the gong.
87th Academy Awards, 2015
Following her previous win, Cate returned to the 2015 Oscars to present Eddie Redmayne with his Best Actor award.
Cate kept things simple in Maison Margiela this year, with a black, open back gown and turquoise, diamond and aquamarine beaded necklace.
Interestingly, Cate re-wore this gown to the 2023 BAFTAs.
88th Academy Awards, 2016
Cate lost the Best Actress award to Brie Larson this year but we have no complaints with this beautiful gown.
One of Cate's favourite designers, Armani Prive, did it again this year with this aquamarine extravaganza.
95th Academy Awards, 2023
Has Cate entered her Tilda Swinton era?
The understated glamour of this Louis Vuitton, two-toned gown stood out amid a sea of taffeta, fuss and frills at this year's Oscars.
With strong shoulders and elegant draping of a rich blue velvet, Queen Cate looked as regal as ever.
