The 47-year-old, who was almost three times the legal limit when she was pulled over, has also had her license revoked and is being forced to pay a $6, 400 fine.

“The test found that she had 95 micrograms (mcg) of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – almost triple the prescribed limit of 35mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath,” the Straight Times reported.

According to the outlet, the sister of the human rights lawyer got behind the wheel of her husband’s BMW X5 after having two glasses of wine and a glass of champagne during a dinner in Dempsey Road.

She was reportedly stopped at a roadblock along Holland Road towards Ulu Pandan at 2:30 AM on May 14.

As per a police report, Tala— who was driving home with a friend in the front passenger seat— struggled to locate the vehicle’s handbrake, smelt of alcohol and was unable to answer the police officer’s questions when he pulled her over.

After being breath tested and Staff Sergeant Alvin Lee proved she was over the legal limit, she was arrested.

According to police documents, Tala’s husband may also be liable for her offences under the Road Traffic Act because he owned the vehicle.

Her lawyer Mr Shashi Nathan claimed in court yesterday that his client was “genuinely remorseful”.

This is the Tala’s second drunk driving offence and conviction in Singapore. She was first pulled over by the police in 2013 and subsequently lost her license for two years.

The owner of popular fashion line Totally Tala relocated to Singapore from New York City after marrying a businessman.
