Dubbed Australia’s Lara Croft, team captain Hayley and her comrades reached further than any other team on the Spartan course before being timed out on the first obstacle of the wet zone; the Water Gauntlet. “We didn’t really plan to come out as fast as we did but with the crowd going off the way they are, it really made us move,” team member Max said.

Hot on their tails were New Zealand imports, team CONQUER and Victorians MIRACLES HAPPEN, who also timed out on the Water Gauntlet, but it was enough to earn both teams a place in the semi-final and a shot at $150,000.

Rounding out the top five places were BANKERS BY DAY, three Queenslanders breaking away from their corporate day jobs and Western Australia’s DONUT SQUAD, married police officers Christine and David who live and work alongside their best friend, Matthew.

The brutal Spartan course took its fair share of victims in the second heat with professional Kiwi athletes and surf life savers FISH OUT OF WATER falling at the Titling Bridge.  BEACH WARRIORS, formed by beach volleyball sisters Justine and Jordan and Olympic water polo player Rhys came undone at the Human Ladder.

Self-described mummy’s boys, THE O BROS, were hoping to prove that nice guys don’t always finish last, however they became victim to the dreaded Spartan course’s second obstacle, the Tyre Swing. The brothers were upbeat about their run with Joel saying of his siblings, “I admire them so much and wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Next Sunday, it’s the third and final heat on the biggest obstacle course built in Australia. Who will take the last remaining spots in the semifinal and be able to master the Spartan course’s new obstacle, the Speed Links.

Australian Spartan airs next Sunday (March 11) from 7pm.
