Either way, he still owns our hearts!

One of the big selling points of this year’s Bachelor is that he’s not only a total babe, but a smartypants too (and we all know hot nerds are everything).

So when claims that Matt Agnew is, in fact, not the cute astrophysicist we fell in love with emerged, the 32-year-old was quick to put the record straight.

After The Sydney Morning Herald revealed that Matt pays the bills by analysing data for one of Australia’s big four banks, NAB, he came back swinging, insisting he is most definitely NOT a banker.

(And he’s not. But… he still works for NAB. Sort of.)

“Before I went in filming [The Bachelor] I was working as an astrophysicist, that’s correct” he insisted on KIIS FM. “I was still employed as an astrophysicist during filming.”

“I basically pivoted and moved into a position as a data scientist… with a data science consultancy called Quantium,” he continued, who have loaned him out on secondment to the Aussie bank.

Thought to be working out of the financial institution’s Melbourne office, he’s only been behind their desks two or three since starting with Quantium a handful of months ago, and insists that he is still 100 percent an astrophysicist,  (no matter what his LinkedIn profile says!).

“Like anyone wishing to advance in their career, I’ve taken a job that will give me an extra skill set, hopefully leading to the space exploration side of space down the track,” he elaborated while speaking to 10 Daily.

“Machine learning and artificial intelligence is a skill set I’ve been interested in developing for some time. It’s a broadly applicable skill set based in an enormous breadth of industries, including banking.”

If you so say, Matt!

The real question, though, is will any of the ladies vying for his heart actually give a toss? After all, some of them could barely say the word, and most of them had no idea what being an astrophysicist actually meant (to be fair, us neither).

“My specific research is about planetary science, so the stuff I’m doing is trying to figure out where another planet like Earth could exist, so we could actually look and find it,” he previously told 10 Daily of just what his job (or, one of them…) entails.

“These planets are often really, really far away — there’s no technological way to actually get there yet. So you know, yeah, we could theoretically but it’s not something that’s within the realm of possibility yet.”
