The ‘confronting’ reason why Brook fled the MAFS commitment ceremony

While MAFS bride Brook Crompton entered the Commitment Ceremony on Sunday declaring she would take “accountability” for her dinner party tirade and “bullying” behaviour, fans were left disappointed… yet again.

While she may have opened her time on the couch apologising to brides Stella and Alissa for her behaviour (an apology that no one in the room seemed to believe) she ended the session abruptly, saying she needed to “go to the loo” and then never coming back.

Backlash to her exit has been swift and intense, with fans saying she simply disappeared instead of facing the consequences of her actions.

But Cosmina Naum, a Self-Worth & Relationship Coach, told WHO everything is not as it seems.

“It would be very easy to label Brook walking out as ‘avoiding accountability’ and that’s probably how a lot of viewers will interpret it. But behaviour always serves a function,” she told WHO.

This dramatic exit, while it definitely dropped our jaws, also begs the question: what example is this setting for viewers at home?

‘Shame’ likely played a part in Brook’s behaviour, expert said

Brook left the Commitment Ceremony after she received a hard truth from expert Mel Schilling.

After skirting around the question of why she behaved the way she did, Mel interjected and told Brook that she had “never before seen a woman be so vicious to other women.”

Cosmina explained Brook was likely feeling “shame” and, since she couldn’t fight, she fled.

“In that Commitment Ceremony moment, the dynamic changed. She couldn’t rely on putting others down because she was being held accountable collectively.

“When your usual coping strategy stops working, you either soften and genuinely repair, or you protect yourself and leave.

For some people, sitting in that level of shame and apologising authentically is far more confronting than walking away,” she explained.

What are fans saying about Brook’s exit?

Fans were unsympathetic towards Brook, many of whom watch the show to see themselves reflected in the relationships on the screen.

“I think she thought that apologising and saying she was taking accountability was enough to get her off the hook,” one viewer commented. “Whereas accountability clearly would have come from copping it on the chin from the experts.”

“Accountability is not a phrase you utter to avoid consequences, it is taking consequences when they are rightly dealt to you.”

While Brook did release an apology on February 19, many fans were not quick to forgive and forget, even more so now after seeing her poor first attempt.

“It’s maybe best now she doesn’t have a platform,” one user commented.

Right now, it looks like fans are over Brook and ready for the new intruders to refresh the dynamics on the show. Whether this will be for better or for worse remains to be seen…but it’s safe to say fans are not holding their breath.
