Holly Greenstein and Andrew Davis could very well be this season’s most controversial couple on Married At First Sight Australia. And we’re only in the second week of the experiment.
WATCH: MAFS’ Andrew admits he slept with 350 women
Their wedding day went somewhat smoothly, despite Holly being deeply concerned over whether or not her Texan husband was a right-wing Trump supporter (he was not). But fans thought things seemed to be on the right track when the couple became intimate on their honeymoon.
How wrong we all were.
Shortly after having sex with Holly for the first time, Andrew informed her he “didn’t enjoy” the encounter and that he’d had better connections with one night stands. Later, he also revealed he’d slept with more than 350 women (okay?) and mentioned pegging on primetime TV, which was quite a sight to see.
“I love exploring sex and I love celebrating sex. I am a very sexual person and have had roughly 350 sexual partners in the past,” he said, also telling Holly she could “benefit” from his experience.
That feels like it deserves another “okay?” from us.
When their conversations arose at the very first commitment ceremony, MAFS expert Alessandra Rampolla was not impressed by Andrew’s supposed honesty.
“How did you think she was going to respond? You can be very honest and not be hurtful. You can be honest and be mindful of the person next to you,” Alessandra said. “Being inconsiderate and rude in the way that you say things, with the excuse that it’s just being honest, I’m going to call you out on that every time.”
Could the couple move past their issues? It was the big question, and they sort of tried to. But at the second Dinner Party they showed up separately, bickered throughout the evening and failed to take on board any reconciliation advice from their co-stars Selin Mengu and Anthony Cincotta.
In the end, Andrew stormed out claiming he was “done” with his marriage and the series. Holly had also suffered through the dinner party on the outs, with several co-stars including Olivia Frazer and Tamara Djordjevic questioning her behaviour instead of his.
Though, many co-stars have since expressed regret for taking his side now that they have seen the episodes and what went on behind-the-scenes.
“With Holly and Andrew, I could only understand his side at that point in time but now, watching it back, I can see it’s very mean without needing to be,” Jackson Lonie tells WHO.
At the second Commitment Ceremony, Holly and Andrew became the first couple to leave the experiment. Well, technically Holly did since he didn’t bother showing up.
“I’ve made my mind up,” Andrew declared in a voice-over while the crew filmed him packing his bags. “I know exactly how I feel. I guess at this point I’m at the end of my rope, I have some requirements in my mind of who I want in my daughter’s life in, my life. She doesn’t fit that mould, so there’s really nothing that I’m holding onto. I’m done.”
Meanwhile, Holly said she’d learned from the two weeks of “heartbreaking” marriage to Andrew.
“I think it was a reminder to believe in myself and to know that I am enough,” she told the experts after saying she had been “silenced” by Andrew throughout the experiment.
