Wicked has officially released the trailer for its second instalment, Wicked For Good, which is due out in cinemas later this year. And, boy, are we on the edge of our seats.
The new trailer treats us to a glimpse of the songs ‘No Good Deed Goes Unpunished’ and the titular track, ‘For Good’, and let’s just say — goosebumps! The second film follows the hunt for Elphaba, as she evades the forces of the capital.
The cast had been teasing the trailer for the past day, appearing on social media in various forms of their Wicked attire. Stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande have each posted to social media with teasers, leaving millions of fans asking: WHERE IS IT? Here’s what we know about the Wicked sequel.

Are there new songs in Wicked For Good?
Absolutely! While, like the first film, Wicked For Good will draw most of its songs from the stage musical, there have been two new songs added by composer Stephen Schwartz.
Schwartz has said there will be two new songs: one for Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba) and one for Ariana Grande (Glinda). This could give Erivo a shot at the O in her EGOT (she already has an Emmy, Grammy and a Tony). Last year, the team weren’t eligible for a Best Original Song nomination at the Academy Awards, given the songs weren’t original to the film (they appeared on Broadway, first). But it seems like Universal Pictures and Wicked film team are gunning for a nod this year.
Is Dorothy in Wicked For Good?
A major question surrounding the Wicked films is how they intersect with the Wizard of Oz. The Wicked book by Gregory Maguire (turned musical, turned movie) is actually a prequel to the Wizard Of Oz by Frank L Baum. It’s part origin story, part political satire crafted around the character of Elphaba, aka the Wicked Witch of the West.
In the original Wizard Of Oz, Dorothy lands in Oz just as the ‘Wicked Witch’ has gone rogue — placing the two films in overlapping timelines. At the end of the first Wicked film, we see Elphaba reject the Wizard and Madame Morrible, who wanted her to use her magic to control the animals and suppress political uprisings in Oz. Then she goes rogue and is branded the ‘Wicked Witch’ by the capital. As we know, Dorothy is also Elphaba’s downfall.
So, is she in the movie?
So far, we’ve only seen glimpses of Dorothy. We saw her, the Tin Man, Scarecrow and Cowardly Lion walking down the Yellow Brick Road in the first film. Meanwhile, Universal has released a teaser for the second film showing the backs of Dorothy and her crew.

In the stage musical version of Wicked, Dorothy is only a voice. It could be possible that we see the whole Dorothy in the film — or we continue to only see her back, as to not distract from Elphaba’s story and role as the heroine of the film.
Who does Glinda marry in Wicked?

Another big question is who does Glinda marry in the Wicked sequel? First look images of Ariana Grande as Glinda wearing a wedding dress and walking down the aisle have already been revealed. In the original text, she marries a nobleman named Sir Chuffey. Despite being engaged to Fiyero, our handsome leading man never marries Glinda in the books. However, it’s possible the film will shortcut this storyline, and have our two leads marry each other.
However, fans have also hypothesised that, given the engagement between Fiyero and Glinda never eventuates in the original, that in Fiyero could possible leave Glinda at the altar in Wicked For Good. We’ll be waiting with bated breath for this reveal!
