Elle Ferguson
Say no to bullying
Despite boasting almost 700,000 Instagram followers, and rubbing shoulders with celebrities like Kim Kardashian West and her hairstylist, Jen Atkin, Australian influencer Elle Ferguson, 34, reveals she has fallen victim to online bullying. “Unfortunately, I have experienced bullying,” she tells WHO. “There have been so many highs and positive memories on social media for me, however, with the good you get the bad.” And how does she deal with it? “I learnt a long time ago to delete and block these people.” Even so, Ferguson is focused on the positives. “I’m really lucky the community I have built on social media is very loyal. We stick together, so the bullies don’t normally stay around very long.”
Nikkia Joy
Always be authentic
The founder of her own cosmetics brand, Nikkia Joy believes the most important thing to remember is to always stay true to yourself. “There are so many people out there who will enjoy you and enjoy your content for exactly who you are,” the 28-year-old business owner tells WHO. With an audience of 150,000 on Instagram, she hopes to spread a message of positivity and confidence, especially to young aspiring influencers. “You don’t need to change yourself or act like something or someone you’re not – you’re special in your own way and that’s what you should be sharing on your platforms.”
Kate Wasley
Consider your audience
Renowned for her body-positive posts, Kate Wasley is aware of her responsibility to her fans. “I think it’s important to remember that some people out there are easily influenced, and putting things out to hundreds of thousands of people without all the facts can be dangerous, especially medical advice,” Wasley tells WHO. The 25-year-old Perth model is enthusiastic about sharing self-empowering messages with her 340,000 followers, but she asks other influencers to be careful about what they post online. “I think it’s important to be considerate, and try and think about the ways something could be perceived by different people.”
Lisa Danielle Smith
Surround yourself with solid support
The most important thing, according to Lisa Danielle Smith, is to have constant love and support around you. “My husband, Jamie, is definitely part of this world alongside me,” she tells WHO. “He has taken almost every photo on my Instagram and has since built a career shooting for other brands.” And while he may not appear in every photo, Smith, 28, says he’s there for her every step of the way. “He loves it and supports me in every way, every day. We are true partners in business and in life.”
Rozalia Russian
Take the first step
Fashion influencer and proud mum-of-two Rozalia Russian reveals she isn’t afraid to make the first move – especially when it comes to her career. “If there is a particular brand you want to work with, sit down and create a pitch that shows how you can work with the brand and what you can do for them,” the 31-year-old, who has almost 250,000 Instagram followers shares with WHO. “The social influencer space has become extremely saturated. So, making that extra effort to connect with a brand and their vision can go a long way.”
