In 2014, they announced that they were expecting their first child together while she was shooting the fifth season of The Walking Dead.
“Kenric and I are beyond excited. There’s nothing like running around fighting zombies in the Georgia heat to stay in shape while pregnant,” she told Us Weekly at the time.
Following the birth of their bub, Sonequa opened up about motherhood, saying having a child is an “absolute blessing”.

“We thank God for this incredible blessing,” the then-new parents also told PEOPLE of Kenric Jr. “We are overjoyed. He’s the coolest little man ever. It’s really been divine having someone come from you and being responsible for their livelihood, for nurturing them.
“I just melt when you mention the fact that I’m a mother now,” the gorgeous actress said, adding parenting has been “profound” and “enlightening”.

Sonequa made a name for herself as a rising star in the business when she scored the role of Sasha in the earlier seasons of The Walking Dead. Meanwhile, her husband has starred in a number of shows including The Originals and Hawaii Five-O.
