After seven drama-filled weeks, the time has finally come to watch The Bachelor’s Matt Agnew decide who he’s going to spend the rest of his life with— will it be the controversial Abbie Chatfield, or sweet, sweet angel Chelsie McLeod?
While it’ll no doubt be tough watching Matt shatter one unlucky girl’s heart, we can all sleep peacefully tonight knowing the astrophysicist won’t be following in the Honey Badger’s footsteps.
This year, we’ll see Chelsie and Abbie meet Matt in South Africa where they’ll spend time getting to know his nearest and dearest before he makes his final decision. While they’ll no doubt make the vacation look very cute and romantic, Bachelor runner up (from Blake Garvey’s season) Lisa Hyde, who also filmed the finale in South Africa, says the heat is unbearable. But what’s even worse is the fact that the entire crew know who the Bachelor chooses before the final two do.

“When I did get to the final 24 hours it’s a really weird feeling because you just don’t know what’s going to happen. You kind of feel a little bit lost, I think, and no one around you can tell you what’s going to happen. You’re either setting yourself up to spend the rest of your life with someone, or not,” she said on Mamamia’s The Quickly podcast.
“Everyone else knows the outcome and you don’t, and so you try to get hints from people and try to find out different things. Obviously the crew can’t say anything, but one crew member from my season, she said ‘You’ll be okay if he doesn’t choose you’.”
There has been a lot of speculation that Matt is going to pull a Blake Garvey on us and dump his winner for a runner-up (or second runner-up, if you want to split hairs). The fact that he’s taking the final two to South Africa just like Blake did when he was picking between Sam Frost and Lisa (and then ended up going for Louise Pillidge) fills us with fear.
Yes, in a move some might remember (um, how could anyone forget!?), former Bachelor Blake shocked and hurt every single one of us when he dumped his chosen one (Sam) around five minutes after he proposed to the sweetheart in his 2014 season finale.
He then went on to declare his love for Louise (who’d been third-last to leave) and become one of Australian TV’s most-hated men ever.
Yes, we’re feeling a little triggered right now.
We can only hope and pray to the Bachie gods that the same fate doesn’t await Abbie or Chelsie, as Matt and the girls jet across the world for their finale.
But even he Matt doesn’t pull a Blake, we’re still guaranteed of plenty of drama, courtesy of Matt’s bestie Kate.
Remember her? The one who met the girls and didn’t like Abbie at all, and told Matt that Abbie was flying some big old red flags and that he should be careful, but he didn’t listen?
Yeah, her.
She went to South Africa, too, and boy, was she unimpressed to see old mate Abs there when she rocked up.
In the new promo for the finale, Kate can be seen telling another of Matt’s closest pals that she would be “surprised” if Abbie had made it to the end.
Cue the surprise.
And one very awkward encounter between the two women.
“I’m almost certain that Kate just doesn’t want me to end up with Matt,” says Abbie, who is probably right on the money, tbh.
“I’ve gotta be honest… I was surprised to hear that you had come down to the final two,” Kate tells an incredibly uncomfortable-looking Abbie.
“She’s horrible,” a visibly distressed Abbie says in a piece to camera, before Kate is seen storming out of her chat with the 23-year-old property analyst!
“Kate has just left,” Abbie is heard saying through tears. “Like, what the actual f–k?”
