Yes! In December 2022, Amazon MGM Studios announced it was developing a television series based on E Lockhart’s bestselling novel, We Were Liars.
What’s the plot?
The official logline for the We Were Liars TV show reads:
“This series follows Cadence Sinclair Eastman and her tight-knit inner circle, nicknamed the Liars, during their summer escapades on her grandfather’s New England private island.
“The Sinclairs are American royalty – known for their good looks, old money, and enviable bond – but after a mysterious accident changes Cadence’s life forever, everyone, including her beloved Liars, seems to have something to hide.” Intriguing, no?

All eight episodes of the We Were Liars TV show will be released on Prime Video on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.

Who is in the cast?
- Emily Alyn Lind, who previously starred in the Gossip Girl reboot, stars in We Were Liars as Cadence Sinclair Eastman.
- Newcomer Shubham Maheshwari will play Gat Patil.
- Esther McGregor, who played Nicole Kidman’s daughter in Babygirl and is the actual real life daughter of Ewan McGregor, will play Mirren Sinclair Sheffield.
- Australian actor Joseph Zada, who was recently cast as Haymitch in the upcoming Hunger Games film Sunrise on the Reaping, will play Johnny Sinclair Dennis.
- Masters of Sex star Caitlin FitzGerald will play Penny Sinclair.
- Mamie Gummer, Meryl Streep’s daughter who is best known for The Good Wife, will play Carrie Sinclair.
- Candice King, aka Caroline Forbes in the Vampire Diaries universe, will play Bess Sinclair.
- Seasoned actor and Emmy nominee, David Morse – best known for House, The Green Mile and The Hurt Locker – will play Harris Sinclair.
- The Haunting of Bly Manor star Rahul Kohli will play Ed Patil.
- Wendy Crewson, of Air Force One and The Santa Clause fame, will play Tipper Sinclair.
What actually happened in We Were Liars?

The novel follows Cadence Sinclair Eastman, who spends her summers on her family’s private island.
After a mysterious accident leaves her with amnesia, she returns two years later to piece together what happened.
As memories resurface, Cadence uncovers a tragic secret: her cousins Johnny and Mirren, along with her friend Gat, died in a fire she inadvertently caused during a misguided attempt to disrupt the family’s toxic dynamics.
The revelation forces her to confront the devastating consequences of her actions and the illusions upheld by her privileged family.
