Kmart’s Cruelty-Free Partnership Has People Talking For All The Right Reasons

These Cruelty-Free Beauty Buys Are Worth The Hype

In an age of BeautyTok and product hauls, of GRWM videos and seven-step skincare routines, it’s safe to say we live in a beauty-obsessed culture. But with every swipe of gloss and every slick of mascara, more and more of us are asking: where did my cosmetics come from? And were they ethically produced?

Enter Kmart with a resounding ‘yes’, with their recent announcement that its OXX cosmetics and own-brand skincare and personal care products are all certified cruelty-free by Cruelty Free International. It’s the first Australian retailer to achieve such a feat and underwent rigorous testing to attain the illustrious stamp of approval.

Look for the Leaping Bunny

Cruelty Free International is an animal protection and advocacy group that campaigns for the abolition of animal experiments, and Kmart’s partnerships falls under its Leaping Bunny Programme. This is the internationally recognisable gold standard of cruelty-free cosmetics and personal care, and each approved product is stamped with the signature bunny logo. The program aims to create a world without animal testing – because why should they suffer in a laboratory for the sake of our vanity?

Animal testing has been a big issue in beauty for decades, but the resistance movement has been gaining steam of late. Clean beauty and vegan beauty are rising; with the vegan beauty category estimated at $18.03USD billion last year, largely dominated by spendy price tags.

Not anymore. Kmart now delivers beauty that’s both cruelty-free and budget-friendly. Take the OXX cosmetics and skincare line, which starts at $3 and serves up everything from lush bronzing drops to glowy blushes (the Luminous Blush Balm, $6, is your shortcut to a Hailey Bieber-esque flush), skin nourishing body butter (the OXX Fragrance Beach Bliss Summer Solstice Body Butter, $8, is a TikTok favourite) and a choice of serums.
