Sometimes getting a full eight hours is easier said than done, but we’ve got a few tips and tricks up our sleeves to give the illusion that you’re less tired than you really are.
Try out some of these must-have skin and makeup products to work some magic!
Hide Dark Circles
The biggest giveaway of a tired complexion is dark circles under the eye area. So if you’re trying to conceal signs of a sleepless night and brighten your complexion, I’d recommend getting your hands on a multi-tasking concealer in a few shades lighter than your skin tone. These formulas are full of hydrating ingredients to moisturise the area, so you can rest assured that they are doing the hard work for you.
1. Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer, $44 at Sephora
2. Revlon ColorStay Skin Awaken 5-in-1 Concealer $26.95 at Myer
Deeply Exfoliate
Nothing is going to make your skin glow quite like a deep clean using an exfoliator. They are the best for removing impurities, cleaning pores, and getting rid of any dead skin cells which will lead to an overall bright complexion. I’d recommend setting aside some time once a week to gently scrub the skin using these gentle, exfoliators. They’ll work wonders to make you look more awake than you actually are!
1. Glow Lab Brightening Exfoliator, $15.99 at Chemist Warehouse
2. Go-To Clarifying Exfoliator BHA and Willow Bark, $40 at Go-To
Fake a Tan
Staying sun safe all year round is my mantra, but pale skin can definitely contribute to looking tired. I tend to avoid dark fake tan and instead, I simply add a couple of tanning drops into my daily moisturiser for a golden bronze. Great for both the face and body, try mixing these friendly drops into your favourite moisturise to develop an even looking tan without the hassle of a foam formula.
Tanologist Face + Body Drops, $23.99 at Priceline
St Tropez Self Tan, $39.99 at Priceline
De-Puff Eyes
Fatigue and lack of sleep can cause the blood vessels around the eyes to dilate, resulting in puffiness. And while concealers are great for concealing darkness under the eyes, you’ll need a little extra help with reducing the puffiness part. Add a cooling eye gel to your daily routine, along with a facial massager that you can pop in the fridge beforehand and use to gentle massage and soothe the area.
1. SkinCeuticals AOX+ Eye Gel, $152 at Adore Beauty
2. Aceology The Original Ice Globe Facial Massager, $64 at Sephora
Coat Lashes
To add a little spring in your step, be generous with your mascara to add definition to your eyes, especially if you’re going bare-faced. I’d recommend these lengthening formulas that will help you easily achieve definition and zero clumps with just a few strokes.
1. Revlon So Fierce Eyes Wide Open Mascara Blackest Black, $24.95 at Chemist Warehouse
2. MCoBeauty Lash Refresh Instant Mascara Reviver, $25 at Woolworths
Indulge in a Mask
Hydration is key when your skin is looking a little lacklustre, so I’d highly suggest investing in a mask that is jam-packed with hydrating ingredients. These formulas are great for using before bed, so generously smother skin as the last step in your routine (at least once or twice a week).

2. Jurlique Hydrating Rose Mask, $68 at Myer
