Whether it’s the world-famous fireworks over Sydney Harbour or riverfront drone shows in Brisbane and food-filled waterfront festivals in Hobart, each capital city has its own way of counting down to midnight.
And rest assured, wherever you are in the country, you’ll be able to make this new year’s eve one that you’ll actually want to remember.
No matter if you’re after family-friendly fun, a glittering night out or a relaxed picnic with fireworks overhead, here’s where to ring in 2026 across the country.
Sydney

Broadcast live on ABC, Sydney’s iconic fireworks around the Harbour Bridge will light up the sky at midnight, with an earlier 9 pm show curated by Indigenous artists. Popular viewing spots include Circular Quay, Barangaroo and campsites around Bradfield Park. There are some ticketed parties that sit alongside free viewing areas, such as the MCA Rooftop party. Restaurants around the city are also holding their own ticketed events. At 11pm, the city is encouraged to take pause for a minute’s silence to show support and solidarity with the Jewish community in the wake of the Bondi terror attack.
Melbourne

Melbourne will ring in 2026 with fireworks and a laser show at midnight, which will be aired on Channel Nine. There will also be an earlier 9.30 pm display for families. Multiple celebration zones across the CBD will offer food, music and silent discos. Family-friendly events like an outdoor cinema and official countdown at Edinburgh Gardens give locals plenty of ways to celebrate.
Brisbane
