Ali Oetjen: ‘I didn’t expect it to end like this’

A furious Ali finally hits back at cheating claims.

After two stints on dating shows The Bachelor and Bachelor In Paradise, Ali Oetjen is ready to try for third time lucky in her debut as the Bachelorette on Oct.10. But before she starts handing out roses to potential love interests, she spoke to WHO about a certain thorn from her past, Grant Kemp.

“We all have one of those ex-boyfriends that just won’t go away, and he’s unfortunately one of those guys who is adamant and someone who wants those headlines and isn’t giving in. I’ve just come to peace with it,” Oetjen says of her ex-boyfriend Kemp’s explosive cheating claims.

Now, though, she says she’s focusing her energy on what’s to come. “The thing is, there are always two sides to the story,” she says. “I’m not giving this any light or any opportunity because I want it to stop and I want to focus on my future. I don’t want him in my future. The truth is, if I say my side of the story that means saying bad things about another person. I’ve never done that and I won’t do that – even if it’s against my worst enemy.”

With her mind firmly set on creating a happier future, Oetjen says her past has impacted her decisions on The Bachelorette, leaving her with trust issues. “[My experience with Kemp] really opened my eyes to looking for people’s actions and not what they say at all. That’s definitely what I learned.

“I feel like I have been courageous in putting myself out there again. I tried not to have that baggage and I tried to leave that in my past. It did, coincidently, take me longer and that was the whole aim of it for me – because I do usually rush into things, but I learned not to because of my past. I do also look out for personality characteristics to look out for and stay away from.”
