Boy George threw The Voice into chaos on Sunday night by sensationally storming off set – and it was all to do with a rather embarrassing misunderstanding between himself and one of the hopeful contestants.

The 80s icon was enraged after mild-mannered auditionee Daniel Shaw was apparently ‘rude to him.

Chatting to the Melbourne-based 21-year-old after his goose bump-inducing performance, Boy George asked:  ‘Do you play guitar?’ to which Daniel responded: ‘I can play guitar, but no-one really cares if I play guitar.’

Clearly getting the wrong end of the stick, Boy George spat: ‘No-one cares? I do. I think after that comment, go with Delta. ‘No-one cares if I play guitar’? It’s a weird thing to say,’ before storming off the set.

‘I’m annoyed. He turned around to me and goes, ‘No one cares if I play guitar’. Rude. That’s not cool,’ the British star told producers backstage.

However, fans were quick to leap to Daniel’s defence.

‘Dear @BoyGeorge  maybe that was a misunderstanding. The (shy) contestant said, ‘People dont care when I play guitar.’ Perhaps he meant when he is busking, he is not noticed, compared to when he is playing keyboards?’ wrote one.

‘Honestly disgusted with @BoyGeorge’s attitude towards @danielshawmusic. The poor kid clearly meant that no-one on the street cares when he plays a guitar. There was absolutely no need to take it personally and walk out,’ said another.
