Celebrity chef and restauranteur Antonio Carluccio has passed away at age 80.
Carluccio, who starred in cooking show Two Greedy Italians and published more than a dozen best selling books was credited with popularising Italian food and cooking in Britain.
Fellow TV chef Jamie Oliver shared a tribute to his first boss on Facebook.
“He was such a charismatic charming don of all things Italian!! Always hanging out the front door of the restaurant with a big fat Cigar a glass of something splendid and his amazing fuzzy white hair,” he wrote.
Oliver continued, “I also had the pleasure of making and producing his TV show the “Two Greedy Italians “ with his life long best friend and partner in crime @gennarocontaldo who were hilarious together !! he was an amazing food ambassador that will be sorely missed. My love goes out to his partner Sabina his family and his dear and close friends on this very sad day. “
Oliver also shared a snippet of a scene the pair had filmed for Two Greedy Italians.
Carluccio was also well known for his chain of restaurants that carried his surname.
In 2016, he told the Press Association that his secret to life was simply happiness.
“My philosophy is to be happy and to make people happy,” he said.
“And by result, if you make people happy they make you happy. I like to have money, because money is good. But it’s not too good, you know?”
