Between them, they have been responsible for some of the biggest hits of the past few years – from “Wrecking Ball” to “Uptown Funk” – and so a collaboration by Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson was always going to grab the world’s attention, especially when it brought Cyrus back to social media to announce the release of “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” earlier this week.

Now the single, the first track from Ronson’s upcoming album of “sad bangers”, has been released, and it’s fair to say it is going to be huge. A mesh of country and electronica, the song allows Cyrus to get her twang on as she sings “this world can hurt you, it cuts you deep and leaves a scar, things fall apart, nothing breaks like a heart”.

Then there is the music video, with a blinged up Cyrus taking a “wild ride” as she’s pursued by police and news helicopters. With its scenes of looting, footballer players taking a knee and children being taught to shoot, it’s clear “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” isn’t just about a failed romance.

Ronson’s album, his first since 2015’s Uptown Special, will also include vocal contributions from Swedish singer Lykke Li, and on-the-rise performers Yebba and King Princess. The producer was also one of the writers on “Shallow”, the recent chart-topping single from A Star Is Born by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.
