I just did the maths. There have been five series of Married at First Sight. That’s 82 episodes, 35 weddings, and now, as of this week, and off the back of news that Zoe Hendrix and Alex Garner from series one have parted ways – precisely ZERO couples who have got married, stayed married and gone the distance together.
That’s zip. Zilch. None. Nada.
And quite frankly – I’m devastated.
And not just because two, by all accounts lovely, people’s relationship has just ended. And that their little one now has to grow up in two different houses.
That’s super sad, but I’m choosing to stay out of all that and not make their pain worse by adding my two cents.
Nope – I’m super sad because…because….How on earth can I ever watch MAFS again thinking these contestants have any sort of a chance?
I’m starting to think that this whole reality TV love thing isn’t really real at all.
Next thing you’ll be telling me that Sophie Monk and Stu Laundy never really had a chance. And that Telv was only on MAFS to get invites to A-list events. And that Davina’s main concern was lifting her Instagram numbers and growing her personal influencer brand?
No.
I simply refuse to believe all this.
I choose to hang onto the fact that real love on reality TV exists. That this promised proposal on Bachelor in Paradise is just the start of a long and lasting love story for whoever it is (please tell me it’s Sam and Tara. Actually, at this point I’d even settle for Jake and Megan).
Honestly – I can’t take anymore heartbreak.
Or the reminder that these people are real. And that life sometimes sucks. And that even a good reality TV producer can’t always script a real-life happy ending.
Yep – real love is dead. And reality TV killed it.
Bryce and Erin – I REALLY hope you can prove me wrong. You’ve split once before – don’t do it again. I can’t take it.
No pressure or anything…
