At the time, Sarah ‘Fergie’ Ferguson – who also shares daughter Princess Eugenie with ex-husband Prince Andrew – had fallen into the trap of a undercover reporter, who secretly filmed the disgraced royal suggesting she could get the journo, who was posing as Fake Sheikh Mazher Mahmood, to Prince Andrew in return for £500,000 ($907,000) payment.

The incident was reported worldwide at the time and caused the royal family deep embarrassment – however, none more so than Fergie’s eldest daughter.

“Beatrice was clearly embarrassed when it was revealed that Fergie took money to introduce an undercover reporter to Prince Andrew,” a friend of the princess told American journalist Edward Klein in 2011, reports The Express.

“The friend spent two nights with her while she cried.”

At the time the Duchess of York said she was “devastated” and “deeply regretted causing any embarrassment,” however she can take some comfort in the fact she’s not the only royal to be fooled by Mahmood.

The undercover journalist also persuaded Princess Michael of Kent to describe Diana, Princess of Wales as a “bitter” and “nasty” woman in 2005, whilst also capturing Sophie, Countess of Wessex criticising former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife, Cherie.
