At age 74, Dennis Edwards, a singer of the iconic motown group the Temptations, died on Feburary 2nd, according to a CBS News report.
Fellow band member Otis Williams took to the official Temptations Twitter account to tweet a message of condolence after learning his friend had passed away.
“Very sad to learn of the passing of our brother, Dennis Edwards. He is now at peace, and our love and prayers go out to his family. We acknowledge his extraordinary contribution to The Temptations legacy, which lives on in the music. Temptations Forever~Otis Williams,” he wrote.
The late star joined the hugely successful vocal group after Singer David Ruffin left the Temptations in 1968. While the Temptations had been working for eight years prior to Edwards’ joining, he led them to commercial success. With Edwards, the Temptations went on to create a number of hit tracks in the late ’60s and early ’70s, including Hot 100 toppers “I Can’t Get Next to You,” “Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me),” and “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone.” The boy-band even scored two Grammy Awards in 1972 for the latter track.
According to PEOPLE, Edwards’ family confirmed that he died in Chicago, however they shared no details about his cause of death. The talented musician would have celebrated his 75th birthday on Feb. 3.
Following the announcement of his death, Edwards has received a flood of tributes on social media both by industry greats and devoted fans.
