Prince Harry and Meghan just made a shock announcement

The royal couple are defying tradition

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are easily the most social media-savvy members of the royal family – their one-month-old Instagram account has already amassed a staggering 8 million followers – however, it doesn’t look like the royal couple will be branching away from the photo-sharing platform any time soon.

According to royal reporter Omid Scobie, despite the huge potential to share their charity work with a wider audience, it is unlikely that Harry and Meghan will open a Twitter account in the near future.

Taking to Twitter, ironically, Scobie said: “There are still no plans for the Sussexes to open a Twitter account and, to be honest, I don’t think they need to right now. With better cyberbullying measures in place, I can understand why they feel more protected being #OnlyOnInstragram – especially when baby photos are concerned.”

The royal expert went on to propose that the couple – who welcomed their first child, baby Archie, earlier this month, will likely announce future engagements via the Queen’s Twitter account, or possibly even post them to Instagram stories.

“I think we’ll see smarter uses of IG stories in the future as well as more work-related posts on @RoyalFamily.

“Plus there’s 20-odd royal reporters posting engagement details en masse the second they’re announced, lol.”

Keeping in line with their modern values, Meghan and Harry shared the first pics of baby Archie via Instagram, with one photo of the couple surrounded by the Queen, Prince Philip and Meghan’s mum, Doria, amassing nearly 3 million likes
