With a legion of young fans, conservationist Bindi Irwin is determined to keep up her clean cut image when she turns 18—celebrations for her July 24 big day will see her camping under the stars with her nearest and dearest nightlife creatures.
The celebration is more wildlife than wild night, with the teenager planning to invite “global ambassadors for the Wildlife Warriors charity.” On the cusp of adulthood, Irwin told the Courier Mail newspaper at the 2016 QPAC awards she’s never gone so far as to taste Coca Cola and has sworn off alcohol: “I might even have two cups of tea if I’m feeling really wild.”
The US 2015 Dancing With The Stars champ also told Nine News her American wakeboarder boyfriend Chandler Powell will be among the guests for her “Camping With The Stars” themed party: “Chandler’s going to be here from the States which is great.”
Powell, 19, has made quite an impression on the daughter of the late Steve Irwin and her family. “Chandler’s a nice person and really kind to Bindi,” her mother Terri Irwin told E! News.
On June 20, Bindi posted a photo on Instagram of friends including Powell enjoying the outdoors, with a T.L. Stewart quote: “You must remember, family is often born of blood, but it doesn’t depend on blood. Nor is it exclusive of friendship. Family members can be your best friends, you know. And best friends, whether or not they are related to you, can be your family.”
The Sunshine Coast star also posted a heartfelt tribute to Steve, who died in September 2006 after being pierced in the chest by a stingray barb, to coincide with Father’s Day in the Northern Hemisphere: “I love you. I hope I’m making you proud.”
