Alissa Fay and David Momoh were one of the first pairings up to say “I do” on the 2026 series of Married At First Sight Australia.
However, their pairing got off to a rocky start when Alissa revealed that she couldn’t go through with the wedding for “one reason.”
In a painfully awkward scene, the bride-to-be insisted her future husband drop to one knee and propose at the top of the aisle – something he initially refused.
With Final Vows officially done and dusted, and the contestants already spilling some major new partner tea, it’s safe to say Alissa and David are far from living happily ever after.
As we mourn the end of another unsuccessful MAFS relationship, here are all the shocking moments throughout the season that led to their downfall.
Alissa’s proposal demand
David was visibly reluctant, hesitating and trying to laugh it off, saying “I don’t know if this is part of the set-up or if you’re being serious,” to which she replied: “I’m being deadly serious, I need a man who will do this for me.”
Eventually, he gave in, but the moment dragged on far longer than necessary. What should’ve been playful quickly tipped into uncomfortable watching territory, leaving viewers squirming at home.
And if that wasn’t enough, the kiss that followed sealed the deal as one of the most second-hand embarrassment-inducing moments of the episode.
David’s second chance
Despite this awkward incident, David insisted he wasn’t going to end their relationship and would instead be giving Alissa a second chance.
The couple then swiftly turned things around and even went on to bond over their Christian backgrounds.
David then admitted that he feels the experts matched them well and said he could be the “calm to her hurricane” – not sure if that’s a compliment, but alas.
The explosive final date task
Their relationship was really tested during the final date task before Final Vows, which saw each bride and groom meet another match.
David and Alissa then watched back each of their dates, which left David devastated after he witnessed his bride make some raunchy jokes with her date. While Alissa insisted it was all “banter”, David called her out for having “double standards”, saying that if he made the same jokes she would have been upset.
It resulted in a heated argument, with Alissa confessing: “If you’re done, don’t worry, I’m done too.”
In response, David said: “Nah, I deserve more than that, there’s no way. I’m not going to Final Vows.” He then left his ring behind and walked out.
Alissa followed behind and threw her ring down the hallway at David, proving it was well and truly over for the pair.

In the lead up to Final Vows, both Alissa and David had made up their minds to walk away.
However, David had evidently had enough of listening to Alissa throughout the season and dramatically walked away before Alissa could reject him as well.
Despite opening with a lovely reflection on how “effortless” their relationship was at first and how much he admired Alissa for being “unapologetically” herself, the drama after Homestays was evidently too much for their relationship to handle.
After an awkward pause – and possibly some pushing from the MAFS producers – Alissa read out her final vows to an empty church as David’s footsteps trailed on in the distance.
In the end, Alissa ended her vows with a simple, “I love you David for who you are, but not for me.”
Despite the assumption that David should’ve at least heard what Alissa had to say, fans online were praising David for his decision to walk away.
“I’m so glad he walked away from her!” one fan wrote online.
“David walking away so that he didn’t have to listen to Alissa’s vows after being spoken over for 3 months was superb,” another user commented about the incident.
It seems no one had any sympathy for Alissa after she was left at the alter.
Alissa just announced a new boyfriend
Conveniently for Alissa, she just announced the morning after final vows that she’s loved up with a new boyfriend and isn’t thinking about David one bit. What timing!
In an exclusive with New Idea, Alissa confirmed on April 8 that she is dating Ninja Warriors star Nathan Ryles, 33, after weeks of online speculation about their relationship.
The pair have now moved in together and have already said “I love you” after four months. While it seems fast for fans, Alissa revealed to the publication that she has known Nathan for years due to sharing similar social circles in Adelaide.
“He was unexpected; we didn’t plan for this to happen, you know, it just happened so naturally,” she said. “I believe that he is my person.”
Are Alissa and David still together?
So yeah, it’s safe to say that David and Alissa are well and truly over.
Regarding whether the pair are still friends, WHO‘s recent chat with David confirms they are not. WHO spoke to David on April 1, 2026, where he said that they haven’t exchanged any recent messages, and Alissa made no effort to contact him after the experiment.
However, as we all know – the contestants are not in charge of their social media until the series has been fully aired. Therefore, viewers will have to wait and see what really happened between the pair.
