Lisa Wilkinson confirms that she will be joining Channel Ten on The Project

Lisa Wilkinson shocked fans when she took to Twitter on October 16 to announce she will be leaving TODAY, but she swiftly followed up with an announcement about her new TV gig – on The Project!

Taking to Twitter, Wilkinson, 57, shared a statement from Channel Ten. “Lisa will join the team of TEN’s award-winning news current affairs program, The Project, in a hosting role. She will work alongside The Project’s hosts Carrie Bickmore, Waleed Aly and Peter Helliar, as well as hosting The Sunday Project.

Following Wilkinson’s announcement, her TODAY co-host Karl Stefanovic has since addressed her departure.

“It all came as a bit of a shock to us yesterday,” he said this morning while promising to address it again in a later segment.

While it has not been confirmed, The Daily Telegraph reports that Wilkinson left last night to Network Ten for a larger pay packet.

According to the publication, The Channel 9 pay offer was up to $200,000 short of her co-hosts salary.

Following Stefanovic’s statement, fellow Nine host Sylvia Jeffrey’s made a heartfelt statement about Wilkinson’s impact on women around the country.
