The 2017 MTV Video Vanguard Award recipient opened up about her love for the country on Nova’s Smallzy’s Surgery.

“If I was to say that you have a love affair with Australia you would go absolutely, 100%?” Kent ‘Smallzy’ Small asked.

“Absolutely 100%,” the 38-year-old singer responded.

When asked why she thinks her relationship with Australia is strong, the ‘What About Us’ singer said it’s because of the ‘no b*llshit’ attitude.

“I think that it’s just that we’re all just no bullshit, I think we have that in common,” she revealed.

“I always laugh that like the moment I realised Australia was the place for me was I was on stage and I thought I was nailing it and the front row was so in to me and then this woman yelled something out at me and I thought it was something like ‘I love you’ but it was actually ‘I can’t hear you, you should tell them to turn your microphone up’.

“I was like ‘oh, thanks I’ll do that’. And I think that’s what it was, no bullshit.”

The singer also opened up about why she put together her new album ‘Beautiful Trauma’, and the influence her husband Carey Hart had on it.

I think life is really traumatic and I think the world is in a really scary spot right now but I also think there’s beautiful people everywhere,” she said.

“I have to remind myself and those around me that there’s more good people than bad and everything you go through is making you a better person and I look at Carey and he’s like the prettiest man in the world and yet his body is covered in scars and he’s just wrecked himself and he’s had not always the easy life and I just think I know there’s a song called ‘Scars to Your Beautiful’ but I do, I think that every scar has a story and I think that is part of makes us amazing.”
