Disgraced ex-politician Sam Dastyari has created controversy tonight by questioning the aboriginal heritage of fellow former politician and camp mate Jacqui Lambie.

Jacqui, who proudly claims Tasmanian indigenous heritage, had been joking with Richard Reid, after the entertainment reporter mispronounced an ingredient list, reading aubergine as aborigine

She quipped to the US star that he shouldn’t ‘eat my people’, a comment which was overheard by Sam, who was seated nearby in the shadows.

‘They’re my people mate, you should see me with a boomerang,’ Jacqui asserted.

But Sam wasn’t having it, sniping in a lowered voice to other camp mates that Jacqui’s heritage was ‘very much in question.’

Dastyari further alleged that his questions had been echoed by others in the Tasmanian indigenous community.

The statement looks sure to create offence and anger – especially if Sam decides to repeat the allegations to Lambie herself.

The ex politician has often spoken of her pride in her heritage, which she says is a strong part of her identity.
