Saving people, hunting things – it’s the family business we were introduced to in Supernatural, and it seems the show’s prequel The Winchesters will carry forward that very same mentality.
The Winchesters were a force to be reckoned with in Supernatural, with brothers Sam and Dean somehow evading death time and time again to fight demons, monsters and everything that goes bump in the night side-by-side.
But while their story has been told – across a total of 15 seasons – the Supernatural spin-off The Winchesters will instead tell the story of Mary and Dean Winchester, their parents.
Ahead of the show’s premiere on BINGE on October 12, we answer all your burning questions about The Winchesters based on what we know so far.

What will The Winchesters be about?
While Supernatural revolved around the two Winchester brothers, Sam and Dean, the prequel is centred around their parents, John and Mary, during their teenage years.
Narrated by Jensen Ackles as Dean, the show gives fans a detailed look at how the couple met, fell in love and risked everything to save the world from dark forces hell-bent on destroying it.
Of course, Supernatural fans were already introduced to a young John and Mary in the original series, but Jensen, who is an executive producer for The Winchesters, told Variety that he had already taken that into consideration.
“We were sitting around when COVID hit going, ‘You know what would be cool? If we went back in time and we actually saw the story of mom and dad and how they met — but do it in a way that skews the narrative so that we hit those waypoints that we established on Supernatural, but get you from A to B, B to C, C to D in a way that is really unexpected.’
“And then we found a way to continue that story in a way that might be surprising, but always keeping in our back pocket getting us back to the mythology that is established, which is not an easy task. It’s not an easy map to draw, but we’re doing our best,” he said.

Who is cast in The Winchesters?
Drake Rodger will take on the lead role as John Winchester, alongside Meg Donnelly who will play Mary Campbell.
Nida Khurshid takes on the role of Latika Desai, Jojo Fleits as Carlos Cervantez, and Bianca Kajlich as John’s mother, Millie Winchester.
Demetria McKinney and Michael Tacconi will also star in the series.
Will Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki be in The Winchesters?
While Jensen will be narrating the series as Dean, it seems he won’t be appearing on the screen to reprise his role.
As for his on-screen brother, Jared Padalecki won’t be taking part in the series after it was revealed he had no idea it was even happening until it was publicly announced.
“Dude. Happy for you,” he tweeted in response to the announcement shared by Jensen. “Wish I heard about this some way other than Twitter. I’m excited to watch, but bummed that Sam Winchester had no involvement whatsoever.”
Despite the awkwardness, the two were able to work it out and seem to be on good terms. Perhaps we could see involvement from Sam in (potential) future seasons? We’ll have to wait and see!
