Exotic, tattooed looks, a supermodel girlfriend and an incredible voice: if anybody has nailed the trifecta for bad-boy pin-up status in 2016 it’s former One Direction crooner Malik.

Cate Blanchett praises her Carol co-star as “profoundly self-contained.” Rooney says for her, acting comes easily: “I’ve always been a very sensitive person,” she told Elle in February. “My emotions kind of live all over my body at all times, and there’s not a good way for me to hide it.”

When Shaik started working in Melbourne as a teen, the 25-year-old saw little dark skin on Australian TV or magazine covers. “I get asked all the time about who inspired me growing up and I can’t give one name,” explained Shaik, whose heritage is Pakistani and Saudi Arabian. “I never saw anyone who related to me. Things are slowly starting to change.”
