3 steps to get your digestion back on track after the silly season

Love ya guts

With the festive season all but over, are you feeling a bit out of whack? It’s not surprising when you consider that a solid month (or more) of festive food, boozy brunches and general overindulgence can wreak havoc on your digestion, which has a knock-on effect of leaving you feeling bloated and a bit ‘blah’. It’s not hard to get back to feeling good again; in fact it’s pretty darn simple, so here’s how to get your digestion and gut health back on track for a top 2020.

1. Make better food choices and cut the crap

When it comes to festive food, our best intentions fly out the window faster than you can say ‘shortbread’, and so begins an epic grazing session that stretches on for weeks. We’re not saying that’s a bad thing, but eventually you’re going to have to rein it in or you’re going to find yourself with heartburn and pants that don’t fit.

Set a date to get your healthy eating back on track and stick to it. Minimise your sugar intake and ensure you’re eating your recommended serves of veggies every day to get your vitamins, minerals and fibre in. Your digestive system will thank you for it. Make the most of summer’s plentiful melons and stone fruits too, and you’ll still feel like you’re treating yourself when you tuck into a juicy mango.

2. Drink to your health

Whether you’re a Feb-Fast fan or a weekdays-on-the-wagon type, cutting your booze consumption is a great way to promote both your gut and overall health. Giving your liver and your digestive system a break from alcohol is easy when you find something you enjoy drinking as much, if not more.

If you haven’t jumped on the kombucha bandwagon yet, maybe it’s time to give it a go. Remedy Kombucha is a great alternative to sugary soft drinks because the slightly sweet/slightly sour flavour pairs well with food and it’s packed with live cultures, organic acids and polyphenols that can help to support gut health and overall wellbeing.

Plus, if you’re cutting out the sweet stuff, Remedy Kombucha’s got your back because it naturally contains no sugar. Even though sugar goes into the initial brew, it gets eaten up by the live cultures during fermentation. Remedy brews out all of the sugar and they test every batch to make sure. That’s why they are the only brand to have the official tick of approval from I Quit Sugar.

Remedy is all-natural, certified organic and comes in 11 great flavours including Raspberry Lemonade, Apple Crisp, Peach and Ginger Lemon, so you can find your perfect match and you won’t even miss your evening G&T. (And if you do, it makes a pretty fantastic mixer, FYI…)

3. Move that body more

If you’ve let your regular exercise slip a bit over the holidays, now’s the time to ramp it up. Exercise is a great way to stimulate your digestion, especially if things are moving a little more slowly than they should be.

You don’t have to start training for a marathon; even adding in a brisk walk can help, so consider walking one way of your commute to or from work if you can or make it a morning ritual – you’ll feel the benefits immediately and in just a few weeks you’ll make it a healthy new habit. So, what are you waiting for? If you haven’t been loving your guts, you can still get it all back on track and feel good for 2020.
