Margot Robbie will executive produce a Shakespeare series told from a female perspective.
The I, Tonya Oscar nominee is teaming up with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation to produce the 10-part series, with each episode focusing on a different Shakespeare play.
“This production is a chance to create something classic yet boldly original and modern,” said Keli Lee, managing director of ABC, in a statement. “The works of Shakespeare are iconic and this will present them in a way they’ve never been seen before.”
The series will also be led by a mainly female creative team.
“I’m taking a lot of meetings with the lesser-known talent at the moment, the indie film-makers, first- and second-time film-makers, mainly women,” Robbie told the Australian Associated Press.
“I’m in a lovely position where I can actually help get things greenlit so I want to work with people who we haven’t seen yet.”
