MasterChef hopeful Huda Al Sultan has opened up about the unusual circumstances she married her husband.
The budding chef revealed she lost her older sister when she was just 16. Two years later, her family arranged for her to marry her late sister’s husband, Abdulmunem.
‘It was awkward and I didn’t know if it was the right thing to do, but I was young,’ Huda told TV Week.

‘My parents knew he was a good man and it’s the traditional way of marriage [in Arab culture].’
Huda – who was born in Saudi Arabia – explained her sister, Zainab was just 18 when she died tragically while pregnant.
Furthermore, the 34-year-old admitted she only found out the details surrounding her sister’s death a few years ago, with her family never explaining what had happened to her.
However, despite the unusual circumstances, Huda and her husband have been happily married for 15 years and share three children together – with the MasterChef star even describing Abdulmunem as a ‘gift’ from her late sister.
