Senior Nationals MP Andrew Broad has stepped down as Assistant Minister to the Deputy Prime Minister following allegations published in New Idea today that the married politician was seeking a so-called ‘sugar baby’ dating arrangement with a woman.
According to the report, Broad allegedly pursued a relationship with the woman through a ‘seeking arrangements’ website while away on a work trip – making the allegations a matter with potential professional implications.
‘I don’t think someone like that should be in a position of power and making decisions for the country while being so deceiving himself,’ the woman, identified only as Amy, told the magazine.
Broad told New Idea in response to the allegations: ‘I have been advised that the person making the allegation may have engaged in criminal activity. This matter has been reported to the Australian Federal Police and I will not be making any further comment.’
Nationals leader Michael McCormack says he has accepted Broad’s resignation, adding ‘due to the nature of the allegations made, it is appropriate for Mr Broad to resign.’
