Fashion enthusiast, Samantha Jade, has spent years honing her personal style. The 31-year-old singer, who burst onto our screens in 2012 when she was crowned the winner of The X Factor, says that she’s come a long way in the style department. “I think I dress a lot better than I used to,” she tells WHO. “I look back at some photos and [I’m] like oh god, what was I thinking? But I mean, I’m never a massive trend follower, some trends for me just don’t work and I don’t try and make them work.”
A quick scroll through Jade’s Instagram shows the myriad of sparkly and shiny outfits she wears, especially since the recent release of her disco-inspired album, Best Of My Love, but when it comes to her everyday style, she likes to keep it simple. “I perform in heels and wear costumes all day so I love to be comfortable… comfort is key,” she says. “I try and stick to quite simple, basic things.”
To make her life a little easier, Jade has a formula when it comes to her fashion choices. “On a day-to-day basis, I kind of have my own little uniform that I always wear,” she says. “I love blazers, they’re my favourite thing and so I always kind of do like a black blazer or a cream blazer or a brown blazer and [a] really good pair of jeans and that’s kind of my day [look].” As for footwear, Jade opts for “slides or white tennis shoes”.
While she has her style down to a fine art these days, it hasn’t always been the case for the Perth-born performer. “There’s been some moments in the past that were not great,” she says. “But I learnt from them and you have to have those funny photos to look back on otherwise at my 30th, you know… people had to laugh at some photos!”
