My Kitchen Rules 2026 has served up some spicy episodes so far, but one cook certainly stood out.
Jane and Shane’s Instant Restaurant has been one of the most highly anticipated episodes of the season.
The food stylist and her husband from the Blue Mountains have spent the entire season ruffling feathers. From ‘plate gate’ and claiming that they’re “tasters, not eaters” to declaring that the $100,000 prize money wouldn’t be “life-changing” and being accused of being “fake” at the table, the couple have built a reputation for being highly critical, and as a result, have set some pretty high expectations for themselves.
Going into their cook, it’s safe to say the pair had a “target on their back”, with Jane even admitting this herself.
In the end, some major failures in the entrée and main ended in a result none of the contestants expected walking into the restaurant that night. When the time came, Jane and Shane received a score of 50, sending them home.
Speaking to WHO, Alisha and Deanne revealed what it was like to progress to round two of the competition after such a chaotic cook.
What went wrong in Jane and Shane’s Instant Restaurant?
Jane and Shane presented their guests with an inventive menu that Manu and Colin said leaned more towards “fine dining” than “considered dining”.
Their entrée was Duck Egg Chawanmushi — which Shane mispronounced, causing Jane to snap and leaving quite the awkward silence at the table — and their main was Masterstock Pigeon, intended as an elevated duck pancake.
And of course, since Jane and Shane aren’t fans of dessert, they served a ‘Tomato Sour’ for their final dish.
Unfortunately, while the entrée was perfectly plated, the consistency of the egg custard was not right, causing some audible gagging from contestants.
Despite having high hopes for the pigeon, the poor birds were overcooked, leaving Jane and Shane scrambling to pivot and plating a dish that many contestants confessed was not so pretty to look at — pigeon claw and all!
While the dessert was enjoyable to many of the contestants, it wasn’t enough to save them.

Alisha and Deanne couldn’t wipe their ‘smiles off [their] faces’
After being so critical all season, the contestants had some high expectations for Jane and Shane. From the plating and table aesthetic to the food itself, the other teams were ready to give the couple a taste of their own medicine.
However, they also didn’t expect the pair to fall flat like they did.
“Everyone thought that [Jane and Shane] were going to even possibly win,” Alisha and Deanne told WHO. “With her work style and all that knowledge of food, for us to be on the bottom and take out the top was absolutely great.
“I don’t think you can get that smile off our face.”

Alisha and Deanne’s message to Jane and Shane after their win
While Tiffany mentioned during the episode that she felt bad for Jane and Shane, given how high she knew their expectations were for themselves, the other contestants were not as forgiving.
Alisha and Deanne confessed to how good it felt to finally come out on top in a competition that has constantly put them down.
“It was bittersweet,” they said. “We have been put down the whole time and then we go through, we’d been on the bottom, and it was like, ‘Well, actually now we’re pretty much on top!’
“And I think we said [to Jane and Shane], ‘Well, we’ve taken you out. We took you out.'”
Alisha and Deanne added: “The one team [Jane and Shane] that kept going around pretty much thinking that they were going to win this place and buy that palazzo did not buy that palazzo and we took them out. Straight packing first round!”
