We’re all guilty of telling a little white lie (or two) to mum in order to keep up the pretence that we’re the perfect angel child – especially while growing up.
So it comes as no surprise that new research from leading card and gift platform, Moonpig, has revealed the cheeky childhood behaviours Aussie mums quietly put up with.
From raiding the liquor cabinet to forging signatures, millennials are finally admitting the childhood chaos they caused. And there’s quite a bit.
For starters, 30% admitted that they snuck out or lied about their whereabouts, while 28% peeked at presents before birthdays or Christmas and 27% stayed out past curfew.

More from Moonpig’s research reveals:
- 11% raided the liquor cabinet and “fixed” it by topping up bottles with water
- 25% stayed on their phone or laptop past bedtime
- 25% pulled sickies from school or forged Mum’s signature
- 21% took coins from Mum’s purse
- 19% didn’t tell Mum they wouldn’t be home for dinner
- 13% cut their own or a friend’s hair
- 12% forgot to defrost dinner when asked
To say there’s a lot we got away with would be an understatement.
But if you’re feeling bad about the stress you put mum through during your childhood, Moonpig is giving you a chance to make up for it.
Moonpig has released a ‘Now I Get It’ Mother’s Day card range that features six different cards to acknowledge all the “childhood crimes” you may have committed.
“There’s a certain point in adulthood where you look back and realise your mum deserves a medal just for surviving your childhood years,” says Elissa Ayling, Country Manager at Moonpig.
“Motherhood is an unrelenting juggle, yet so many mums are still left organising their own celebration. ‘Now I Get It’ gives millennials a way to own up to their antics with a laugh – while recognising Mum has been the real MVP all along.”
The cheeky, heartfelt collection makes it easy to say “sorry” and even easier to give mum a proper day off with curated gift add-ons, like fun personalised mugs, a comforting pair of lounge socks and hand cream or a boozy espresso martini set.
