The Bear teases a fragile future in gripping new trailer

Yes, chef! We're ready

If you’ve been salivating for The Bear season four, a new trailer has signalled the return is near—and it’s going to be a doozy. The two-and-a-half-minute trailer reveals a lot about what’s to come for Carmy (Jeremy Allen White), Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) and Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) in the next season of everyone’s favourite cook show. And while the soundtrack is upbeat, the message of the trailer is resoundingly pessimistic: Is the future of The Bear–and the restaurant industry, as a whole—really that bright?

Will the restaurant be able to stay afloat? Will the staff be able to stick together? And is all of it worth the personal sacrifice? Check out what the trailer teases below, plus everything else you need to know about where to watch The Bear upon its season four return.

What is The Bear about?

Set in Chicago, The Bear follows chef Carmen ‘Carmy’ Berzatto, played by Shameless star Jeremy Allen White. Following the sudden death of his older brother, Carmen inherits his family’s run-down Italian sandwich shop, leaving his glamorous career as a Michelin-star restaurant owner behind in order to maintain the family business.

As his newfound sandwich shop and fine dining career are polar opposites in the world of hospitality, we see Carmy grapple with the reality of trading the prestige of running a critically acclaimed restaurant while also navigating his unresolved pain and family trauma.

As for season four, the show introduces a literal ticking clock for how long this restaurant can survive. As it ticks down from 1,339 hours, Cicero announces that when the clock reaches zero, the restaurant will officially have to cease all operations. Pressure much? Plus, there’s the ongoing decay of just about everyone’s private life, with Carmy continuing his ongoing struggle to keep his demons at bay. Beyond that, we have a wedding, Jamie Lee Curtis and one bad (perhaps fatal) review.
