Ash Barty’s childhood dream has come true as she is officially named the number one in women’s world tennis.
The news comes just weeks after the Australian sports star clinched her first grand slam singles win at the French Open in Paris.
The 25-year-old is now ahead of former world number one, Japan’s Naomi Osaka after defeating Julia Goerges in straight sets at the final of the Nature Valley Classic in Birmingham yesterday.
Barty is only the second Australian female tennis player in history to hold the number one spot, following Goolagong Cawley in 1976.
