Following Alissa’s dramatic ring toss on MAFS last night (March 31, 2026), her groom, David, has exposed the truth behind the moment.
If there’s one thing MAFS fans can take away from contestants’ behaviour this season, it’s a lesson. While you’d think relationship advice would be the key takeaway from a literal marriage experiment, the “toxic” behaviour and “bullying” that made a repeat appearance this season has left fans “heartbroken”, “tired”, and surprised by the “unexpected” true colours and plot twists that are all being revealed in the final week.
In the final week of the experiment, Alissa’s behaviour has been the biggest “blindside” to David as she’s shown tossing away her ring as well as everything her and David have worked towards throughout the experiment.
Speaking to WHO on April 1, David revealed what really happened behind the scenes, and the red flags from their wedding that never went away.

How was David treated by Alissa behind closed doors?
Speaking with WHO, David revealed that he ignored so many of Alissa’s red flags because he “cared for her.” It turns out it wasn’t Homestays Week or any one moment that broke this couple’s relationship, but that the relationship was doomed from the start.
Alissa’s stunt at their wedding, where she pressured him to get down on one knee and propose to her before she would continue with the ceremony, was the red flag that never went away.
“In hindsight, knowing how much I cared for her, I overlooked so much,” David told WHO. “From ‘get down on a knee’ to things I found out on the honeymoon from the challenge box that never aired.”
“I went above and beyond to show how much I cared. It makes no sense to me how she sort of flipped the script.”
David described Alissa’s request at the wedding as a “hit to the gut” that in past relationships would have sent him running immediately. Given the nature of the experiment, he wanted to give it a fair shot, but he revealed to WHO that Alissa’s behaviour from day one never went away.
“I could blame a moment and say, Alissa did that to me because of that. But like it was there from the start,” he told WHO. “It just it didn’t change.”
“I was meant to be a subordinate and do things based on how she felt. If she felt it was right, it was right. If I felt it was wrong, we can’t have a conversation about it because she’s right. You know, that didn’t change.”

Even after hearing some unfavourable rumours about Alissa from Bec at the second dinner party of the season, David told WHO that he had suspicions about them being true based on signs in her behaviour, but chose to “put [his] trust in her” and they “had a really strong moment” that he was proud of.
“I will say this, the second dinner party where she got bullied, what came out was on the table was stuff Bec said about Alissa and this wasn’t aired,” David said to WHO. “Essentially rumours about her.
“So there were all these rumours that for me, I could have taken as, oh, this might be true or 50 percent true based on the red flags I saw, but I still, in good faith, believed in Alissa, you know?”
Now, while he wouldn’t reveal what the rumours were, he’s unsure whether he should’ve believed in Alissa at all.
Do David and Alissa make it to final vows?
Despite the dramatic finale to last night’s episode, the preview for the final dinner party showed David getting down on one knee in front of Alissa. While David told WHO that he “wanted to give Alissa a second chance”, he also revealed that the pair haven’t spoken since the experiment ended, with an explosive reunion episode teased for the future.
While we’re still unsure if the pair will make it to final vows, we do know that whatever vows are made will be broken.
