There has been a dramatic rift between Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson ever since their on-air feud on February 20, and while we all try to grapple with the fallout and missing information of what really happened, Kyle has finally acknowledged what’s going on.
The Australian Idol judge referenced the feud while speaking to a contestant on the show on Monday 9 after they sang the popular song With A Little Help from My Friends.
“We all need to get by with a little help from our friends,” Kylie said to singer Charlie Moon.
“This week has been tough for me. I had a falling out with a very close friend.”
Why are Kyle and Jackie O fighting?
On February 20, Jackie stormed off the show during an on-air blow-up with Kyle about her psychic beliefs.
As Jackie read out Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s astrology birth chart, Kyle fired up, calling her “almost unworkable” and dismissing her for being “off with the fairies with this s–t, it’s mental.”
While this seems to be an oddly small fight to terminate your whole contract over, particularly given Kyle’s history of explosive and controversial comments, we can only speculate that there is much more we don’t know that is bubbling beneath the surface.
Or perhaps this was merely the straw that broke the camels back!
Has Jackie O commented on the feud?
ARN Media Limited – the owner of radio KIIS FM – released a statement confirming that Jackie had made the decision she “cannot continue to work with Mr Sandilands.“
On March 4 (when tensions hit boiling point) Kent “Smallzy” Small filled in for the duo and read out a statement from the network.
“Jackie has given notice that she can no longer continue to work on the show with Kyle on breakfast,” he said. “As such, Jackie has officially left the show.”
While there are talks of Jackie being offered a new show with ARN, Kyle has been given 14 days “to remedy a serious breach of contract in respect of the show.”
We won’t be seeing Kyle during this time, and if Kyle doesn’t find a way to remedy his mistake, his contract will be terminated.
Jackie O pushed back against the media coverage suggested she had “quit” the show.
“I want to make one important point very clear: I did not quit or resign.
“I am deeply saddened by the events of the past week and the possibility of the show ending. This has come as a shock to me, as it has to everyone else.”
How are people responding to Kyle and Jackie O’s split?
According to many fans, Jackie O should’ve left years ago.
“About time,” one user commented online. “The only thing surprising here is that it took so long. Hopefully this means the end of Kyle on the radio altogether too.”
“Good for you Jackie,” another user commented. “We’ve been waiting. Heal at you own pace.”
It’s also safe to say that fans are “devastated” by the end of the hit radio show, with many mourning the fact that they didn’t get a “proper goodbye.”
“What am I going to listen to now in the mornings?” many users commented on the show’s most recent Instagram post.
However, amidst this slew of mixed reactions, many radio listeners are also apathetic about the show’s end, are ready for “something new”, and cited the show’s tanked listenership in Melbourne.
“Their show ratings was tanking,” one user noted. “Ever since they moved to Melbourne to try and revive the show it never really improved.”
What’s next for Jackie O?
While Kyle has 14 days to get his act together, Jackie has reportedly been offered her own show in a different time slot within the network.
What this show will look like and whether she will have a new co-host still remains to be seen.
